| President's message
Ceres is committed to providing opportunities for exploration--artistic, creative, and political. A recent gallery reorganization created the position of director ably filled by Stefany Benson who has the expertise to guide us to the next level of professionalism.
Our provides an opportunity for artists through out the country to exhibit. Magdalena Dubrowski of the Metropolitan Museum of NY is our juror. This year the Helen Stockton Memorial Show honors one of our original members and (re)examines abstract painting in exhibition and with outreach to public school children.
Our programming includes workshops by Joan Arbeiter and the Women's Studio Center during Women's History Month and readings by “Poets for Choice,” a group that donates all proceeds to Planned Parenthood of New York City. Our annual Friends of Ceres show is a wonderful month long group show, presenting the work of artists who have been generous supporters of Ceres .
As part of The Feminist Art Project initiative last year, we hosted AGENTS of Change: Women, Art and Intellect , which was starred as a must see exhibition in the NY Times. Next year we will curate a Muslim Women's exhibition at Ceres .
Artist members meet monthly, sharing process and artmaking, encouraging and strengthening both the individual and the group. We create in every medium: sculpture, drawing and painting, collage, photography, print-making, installation, and video. New member candidates are welcome.
Ceres would especially like to thank the visitors who attend our exhibitions and programs. Thoughtful and interested viewers are what make art galleries thrive. We sincerely encourage all of you to attend and enjoy our shows and programs in this coming season.
