STATEMENT

Sickness, melancholy and the awareness of our mortality does not make us all religious.

Motion, turbulence and surprise jolts do not just happen on an airplane.

Disasters by the hand of God or man do not have to be measured and doled out with blame to be chronicled.

The purpose of my work is to metabolize disaster, fear, panic and sadness through color, motion and sometimes pop imagery.

Abstraction is there too, rendering you to look at the color and motion only.

Transformation of bad things is my point of view.   Spirituality fits in.   Hope is needed now.  

The image of a plane crashing into the Hudson River where all on-board survive – able to walk out on the wing – is divine.

Nationally exhibited, Hollis Hildebrand-Mills' work was chosen by Anne Umland, Curator, Painting & Sculpture Department, Museum of Modern Art, NY for inclusion in a juried exhibition in Chelsea, NYC.   Another painting was awarded honors by Jerry Cullum, Senior Editor of Art Papers and contributor to Art in America. In 2007, Hildebrand-Mills was selected as one of seven artists to exhibit solo in Atlanta's prestigious Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.
