I am a figurative artist whose work explores female sexuality. I work in charcoal on watercolor paper, slowly applying layer upon layer of charcoal, to create dense, weighty images. My ‘Masturbation Series’ is comprised of 7 large drawings done on watercolor paper.
Frank discussion or depiction of a woman as a sexual being, rather than as a sexual object, is still taboo. I attempt to break down this taboo by presenting women’s sexuality as a beautiful thing – a natural part of being a healthy, whole, independent woman. My monumental bodies challenge the viewer to examine the expression of their own sexuality, to question what is ‘acceptable’, what is ‘normal’.
I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Fine Arts. I also attended the Art Students League of New York, studying with Anita Steckel.
