STATEMENT

I have always created sculptures that flirt between functional and non-functional objects. The surprise in this latest work Tectonic Shift is the scale. By using glass and metal miniatures I have constructed an environment where the viewer intuitively places themselves in these assembled settings. The minimization of chairs and tables creates an atmosphere that gives one the illusion of power, power to be able to address crucial environmental issues, weather changes and historical biases. I evoke the geopolitical dreams and realties of the 21 century with a metaphoric seat at the table

Born and raised in New York City, I have a strong passion for making and viewing art. Early in life, I learned about art not only from the museums, but also from the raw, primitive, folk qualities of art in a city washed in the colors of different cultures. While living and working in New York’s Soho I became interested in experimental, radical art as well as feminist art. Since then I am involved in multicultural art organizations, such as Vistas Latinas and Coast to Coast: Women Artist of Color, Dia de los Muertos: Marigold Parade Collective and have been curating and organizing exhibitions.
