Marcy Bernstein

Statement

Marcy Elise Bernstein presents an intoxicating fusion of paint, photographic abstractions, and wax on distressed surfaces. Her bold stripes and bars emerge through primitive, instinctual brushwork that commands attention and invites deep contemplation. Her large-scale, dreamlike canvases pulse with lush, slashing brushstrokes and unexpected color combinations that create visual poetry about creativity, sensuality, and the human experience.

Bernstein’s paintings are an evocative combination of paint, photographic abstractions, and wax on distressed surfaces. Stripes and bars manifest themselves in Bernstein’s painterly hands to visuals of strong, primitive impulse. The lush slashing brushstrokes, aberrant color, and the strong primitive drawing invite us to look inward.

“They’re filled with allusions to the raw energy of creation itself.” Bernstein
