STATEMENT

I am a feminist, figurative, multimedia artist. My work deals with the human dimensions of social issues. I take to heart Alice Walker’s statement that “Activism is my rent for living on this planet.” My work has evolved from clay urban vignettes to clay and wood environments exploring consumerism, homelessness, alienation and war, to handmade paper sculptures and collagraph prints on aging women’s bodies, to work on Confluence – people coming together, embracing differences, moving forward on a path to a better world to Pandemic Reflections.

Working with new technology at Staten Island Maker Space I have digitally translated my Confluence prints into various sized works in wood. Then came the pandemic and the Journey Within sculptures are my responses. They are meditations on our inward journeys as well as further artistic explorations of the combination of digitally cut wood and cast paper. Moving between shadow and light, they are efforts at getting in touch with a deeper level of our being.
