NINA FLETCHER

STATEMENT

My Art is about my obsessions. I try to materialize that which I grapple with, in hopes that I am not alone in my search.  I have been making art for decades.  Having graduated from MassArt in painting I was soon lured into other media—clothing, shoes, wire, metals, glass.  Throughout my various forays I have always maintained an interest in printmaking.  Lino cuts, in particular are my preferred storyboard form.

My art is largely figurative, the human body being for me, an endless source of wonder and curiosity. We all live in one. Peel away the layers and what remains is a remarkable organism common to all.  My work as a nurse for fifteen years undoubtedly fed this passion.

Throughout my life I have tried to excavate the archeology of being a woman—not so much the politics, but rather the various and unique ways our anger manifests.  This has been a lifelong expedition.
