STATEMENT
Taming Chaos
In a world that—especially now—feels unpredictable and overwhelming, my work in Taming Chaos seeks to create moments of balance and clarity. This series begins in the raw, unfiltered space where chaos reigns. Each piece emerges from an initial burst of energetic disorder: spontaneous marks, unruly colors, and shapes that refuse to be contained.
My process begins by deliberately creating this chaos on the panel. Over time, that approach evolved into working with alcohol inks, whose luminous fluidity makes them both exhilarating and unruly. They spread, merge, and shift in ways that cannot be fully predicted or controlled. I begin without a fixed endpoint, allowing the materials to guide my response. The process becomes a conversation—between accident and intention, impulse and restraint, chaos and order.
As the layers build, I gradually introduce structure: lines that direct the eye, shapes that anchor the composition, and patterns that create rhythm. The original chaos remains visible beneath the surface, but each deliberate intervention becomes an exercise of agency. I cannot fully control what has already occurred, yet through the choices I make, I can shape it, respond to it, and create a measure of balance. The aim is not to erase disorder, but to work with its energy and transform it into something intentional and resonant.
In life, as in art, chaos is inevitable. It is the starting point—the raw material from which meaning can be made. Taming it is not an act of suppression, but of translation: turning unpredictability into expression and turbulence into clarity.
Ultimately, Taming Chaos is both a visual and emotional practice. It reflects the way we navigate our lives: accepting what cannot be controlled while recognizing our capacity to respond. Each completed work offers not a perfect resolution, but a moment of balance—a reminder that even when chaos remains beneath the surface, our choices can bring structure, meaning, and beauty to what emerges.
